Are you aware that there were approximately 2,582 frozen yogurt stores in the United States by the end of 2013? According to an industry report, this number climbed even higher to 2,900 frozen yogurt stores by 2014.
Another one of America’s favorite deserts is ice cream, of course. An industry report claimed that by January 2016, ice cream sales totaled approximately $5.15 billion in U.S. dollars. Although Americans do have their favorite brands and flavors, they also like to explore new taste sensations.
Favorite Ice Cream Flavors
What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? You may be interested to know that a recent Harris Interactive consumer survey reported that these tend to be America’s favorite flavors:
- Chocolate
- Vanilla
- Cookie dough
- Cookies and cream
To demonstrate vanilla’s popularity, an International Ice Cream Association member companies’ recent survey found that for 28% of their consumers, vanilla was a favorite flavor. Many people may love vanilla because it is an excellent complement to other desserts such as cake, cookies, fruit, and yes, pie.
National Ice Cream Month
Were you aware that the most ice cream is made in June? One of the reasons for this may be because July is National Ice Cream Month. There’s also a National Ice Cream Day, which falls on the third Sunday in July.
Both National Ice Cream Month and National Ice Cream Day were established in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan. He, like most Americans, loved his ice cream and called for people to celebrate by enjoying it at all types of regular and festive occasions.
The International Ice Cream Association, of course, also encourages consumers and retailers to make an effort to celebrate National Ice Cream month and day with this decadent dessert.
Celebrate with Ice Cream Year-Round
Americans don’t need to wait until July to celebrate with ice cream, however. It can be enjoyed year-round. According to research conducted by NPD Group, 40% of people in the United States will consume this favorite dessert every two weeks. This year alone, each member of the ice-cream-consuming public will have ice cream almost 30 times.
What are you going to have in your ice cream cup today? Whether you will have vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream–or any of dozens of exotic new flavors–that ice cream cup will be a source of enjoyment.
Every day is a great day to celebrate with ice cream, no matter what the weather. The next time you have ice cream, go for a double scoop and experience a new flavor.
