The First Step to Living Healthier Is to Buy Organic

Can you believe that the in the U.S., chicken contains an estimated 266% more fat than it did just 40 years ago!? That’s not the only staggering fact about food in America. Did you know that the USDA allows non-organic beef in the U.S. to be cured with, of all things, ammonia? These foods aren’t only bad for your nutrition, but your health. The EPA considers 90% of all fungicides used in the U.S. to somehow be linked to cancer, while 30% of all insecticides to potentially be linked to causing cancer!

This is the main reason you should start eating wholesale organic food, although there are plenty of other benefits. Organic food definitions state that producers must use little to no help from chemicals, pesticides, or hormones during the growing process. Most people believe that wholesale organic food is jam-packed with more nutrients and vitamins, making them superior than conventionally grown food. The truth is, though, that wholesale organic food is in fact healthier, but for the reason that they’re aren’t any pesticides or fungicides.

According to the Organic Trade Association, or OTA, sales have risen over the past decade, almost reach $30 billion in 2011. Whether or not you buy organic food, this increase actually benefits you, too, believe it or not. There are ripple effects of supporting organic farms that everyone profits from, such as the environmental benefits. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Organic farming practices are designed to benefit the environment by reducing pollution and conserving water and soil quality.” The OTA also states that organic farmers build healthy soil. They write, “Soil is the foundation of the food chain. The primary focus of organic farming is to use practices that build healthy soils.”

There are several reasons people choose to buy wholesale organic food. Nearly half (48%) say they buy because it’s healthier, 30% say it’s to avoid the toxic pesticides and chemicals, 29% say it’s to avoid antibiotics and hormones, and 22% say it’s to avoid genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
